“Beans and papas, papas and beans, beans and papas, papas and beans… this is all the food we had for months on-end. I was so tired of beans and papas, but there was nothing else.”

My dad used to tell us stories of his childhood working the fields. Memories of his immigrant parents with their van full of 12 kids traveling to different states picking fruit to just have a place to lay their head. These stories were fascinating and so foreign from the one he worked to create for us.

It’s now our turn to work for him.

My dad, Homer Rodriguez, has lived with type 2 diabetes for over 20 years and these last 4 years he has been relying on dialysis to live. His name has sat on a donor list all 4 of those years and he is predicted to have at least another 3-4 years to go.

He won’t live another 3-4 years without a kidney donor.

For various reasons, the members of our family have been ruled out of compatibility for a kidney donation.

It is with fierce love and eager hearts that we are reaching out in hope of finding him a kidney donor.

If you know of anyone, or if you yourself are interested in discovering if you could be a match please contact us with the information below. Another great way to help is to share this in the hopes of finding someone who may know of a match.

Thank you so much for being our village and supporting us!

Here is a link to more information on the process.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

Update on my Dad || Oct 2021

Friends who have been following the journey on my dad’s health THANK YOU! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your love, thank you for your prayer, thank you for walking with us through a road that has been long and hard.

These last months have brought the clearance that my dad has needed to move forward to accept a new kidney should one become available! After many doctors appointments and health checks, it has been determined that he is healthy enough to manage surgery and heal well. (Had he had a donor before this point, it would have taken months of clearance before he could go into surgery.)

We still are asking and praying for a kidney donor. At this point, a kidney donor is his final chance at being taken off of dialysis and moving towards a more full life.

A common question answered:

You do not have to be a blood match. If you choose to donate, your kidney will go to someone on the list who is watching for a kidney and my dad will get the kidney that matches his blood type.
